I just wanted to get other people's opinions on this, since so many of us that use the Engine use the Character Generator to handle all their sprites. I now go out of my way to find and buy/download custom graphics and even edit them to be taller and larger (Which, is a VERY ANNOYING process but one that I personally think is worth it) so that my game can actually be taken seriously. It's just so hard to take a dramatic moment in the game seriously when everyone's 2 feet tall.Īfter playing through a ton of other RPG Maker games that use them (A whole lot of commercial ones at that), I quickly realized that (IMO) in order to actually get your game to stand-out, you need to have graphics that are not from the base RPG Engine at all, even from the character generator at all. Not to mention, there's no option to make busts in the character generator.Īs for the chibi's themselves, I have to say I hate them. RTP graphics but, after awhile, they all start to blend together and they all scream RPG Maker. Sure, everyone's created characters are different and they are definitely better than the but, at the end of the day, are they really that great? Are they even custom? At this point, I have to say no. Heck, there's even a whole ton of DLC and free resources to add more parts to the generator. A simple way to make "unique" graphics for your game. So, the character generator for the engine is pretty cool, at first glance.
